As it is sometimes difficult to maintain proper posture, lower back pain often accompanies sitting for long periods. Those with frequent back pain look to a zero gravity chair for relief.
Ergonomics from Outer Space
The zero gravity chair is ergonomic and is a direct result of NASA research. Studies of astronauts show the human posture in space differs from the normal posture caused by the tug of gravity. Scientists concluded that the musculoskeletal system in its most non-stressed and natural position is a microgravity posture, or weightlessness. This posture improves digestion, enhances circulation and correctly aligns vertebrae.
To replicate the “feeling of weightlessness,” a zero gravity chair reclines to raise the feet above the heart, decreasing blood flow and heart rate, and provides comfort to the user. The adjustable chairs recline at different angles, or remain upright, all the while supporting body weight and reducing pressure on the spine.
Common Usage
Many owners use their chairs to watch television, read books or just relax. However, recliners can be used in office or home environments, with designs available for either indoors or outdoors. Indoor recliners are usually padded with leather or suede over a wooden frame; outdoor chairs are typically made of weatherproof mesh over an aluminum frame with wood arms.
Chairs come in a variety of stylish colors depending on the manufacturer; some models can be custom made, mixing frames and upholstery according to preference. Recliner features vary by model. Some recliners have pivoting seat arms, tilt tension control, and locking backrests and footrests. Other models are made specifically for home theaters. Higher end chairs, while more expensive, offer massage and heating systems.
Manufacturers continue to innovate and improve with each new model. However, all recliners are based on a basic ergonomic premise: a zero gravity chair alleviates lower back pain.
