Chairs for Bad Backs

Do you have a bad back? You should know that the furniture in your home can either help heal you and reduce your discomfort or hurt you and increase it. Properly designed chairs will help relieve your back pain and speed up your recovery from any existing back problems. If you spend most of your day standing, you’re very fortunate. As long as your posture is good, and you’re not super overweight, your spine is not under stress.

If you spend most your day sitting down it’s a completely different situation. Too bad most of us spend our days like that. When we are sitting down, our spines are in an awkward position – one that increases stress and the possibility of injury. So what can you do? Today we’re going to look at two options:

  • Chairs for bad backs, including a NASA designed back support chair.
  • Products that you can use with your current chairs to improve your posture and comfort. (Bonus! You can take these with you when you travel or to the office.)

Zero Gravity Chairs

Based on a design originally produced by NASA, these chairs keep your torso and upper thighs at the precise angle to reduce stress on your spine. Not only that, but they maintain a single regardless of the chair’s position. So you can lay out and fall asleep watching TV, or set up and read a book-you’re back will remain properly supported.

Lumbar support is built-in and can be operated manually or automatically. They have automatic chairs called the Backcycler CPM, which not surprisingly, cycles, inflation and deflation of the lumbar support to improve circulation and prevent your back from getting stiff during a long period in the chair. This means that you can watch an entire movie and get up without putting your hands on your back and letting out a groan. In addition, this chair has neck support to keep your head in the right position with relation to your spine.

  • You get a small part that always stays level-this is where you put your soda pop, tends or anything else is likely to move on an angled surface.
  • The big side is your work area. You can tilt this to put your computer writing material or book at the best possible angle.
